VAR will be used in the Carabao Cup semi-final match between Chelsea and Arsenal

Video Assistant Referee known as VAR will be used in the Carabao Cup semi-final match between Chelsea and Arsenal.

It will also be used in the competition’s final match next month, but not in the other semi-final match between Manchester City and Bristol City.

In Brighton’s clash against Crystal Palace which takes place tonight (Monday) at 20:45 it will be the first time that VAR will be used in an official match in England.

In 2016, the FA had decided for the technology to be tested in the next two years.

VAR can be used on four different occasions which could change the match, goals, penalty decisions, red cards and if the referee has identifies the wrong player.

The head of the England referees in England, Mike Riley has said that the technology will never bee 100% perfect.

According to him, there will always be debate given the fact that it is subjective in specific things.

Since its first use in the Club World Cup in 2016, VAR has been used in the Confederations Cup in 2017 and is also used in Bundesliga and Serie A. //Actuantes//
