FC Barcelona club-record signing Philippe Coutinho says his combination with the club’s attacking stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez is steadily improving.
After a slow start to life at the Camp Nou, the £108m (R1.75b) January arrival from Liverpool scored his first league goal in the 6-1 thrashing of Girona on Saturday evening. The Brazil international also grabbed an assist, as Suarez bagged a hattrick and Messi netted a brace.
Now Coutinho says his improved performance was based on his developing understanding of the Blaugrana style of play and particularly the movement of the attacking duo.
“Our understanding is improving with each game, as well as with Suarez. He’s very important for us. I’m learning gradually and I have to keep working hard,” he told Movistar Partidazo.
“Messi? Leo’s a great guy. He deceived everyone with his goal. It’s incredible how good he is.”
Coutinho has now scored two goals and registered a single assist in 8 games across all competitions for Barca.
