Keeping clean sheets is clearly Diego Simeone’s favourite hobby.
Atletico Madrid have added another win, another clean sheet and another trophy to further improve El Cholo’s incredible managerial record.
Following Atletico’s routine 3-0 victory over Marseille in the Europa League final last night, Diego Simeone’s managerial stats have gone viral and for good reason.
After 377 games in charge Simeone has achieved 233 wins, 200 clean sheets, 8 finals and 6 trophies. The silver wear includes one La Liga title, one Copa Del Rey victory and two Europa League trophies. Simeone has also made two Champions League finals but fallen just short on both occasions.
Last night’s Man of the Match and Atletico’s leading goal scorer this season Antoine Griezmann told UEFA: “What Diego Simeone is doing for this club is historic. It’s like what Sir Alex Ferguson did with Manchester United.
“He has helped me grow both on a personal and professional level. He will always ask for the best of me and make me do my best, and I’ll always be there to help him and help win the games.”
“You learn a lot under Simeone. I think he’s the best tactical and defensive coach in the world and he shows that year in, year out.”
Simeone will be looking to make it 234 wins and ideally 201 clean sheets in their final La Liga game of the season against Eibar this Sunday.
The Madrid outfit require just one point to secure 2nd place in La Liga, topping off what would be another fantastic season under the Argentine managerial magician.
