Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United: Player ratings

Chelsea secured their eighth FA Cup title after defeating Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United 1-0 in the final at Wembley Stadium.

United’s top scorer Romelu Lukaku returned from injury but had to settle for a spot on the bench as Marcus Rashford was handed the start up front.

The game got off to a cagey affair, although Chelsea’s Hazard did force David de Gea into a reflex save inside the opening 10 minutes.

The Blues were then awarded a penalty on 20 minutes when Hazard was brought down under the challenge of Phil Jones. The Belgian winger stepped and calmly converted the spot-kick.

The Red Devils looked to hit back straight away but they were restricted to efforts from distance, none of which troubled Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

That proved to be the trend for the rest of the half as the Blues went into the break leading by the one goal.

Mourinho’s men took control from the onset and threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser, although Chelsea remained solid at the back.

United had the ball in the back of the net after 62 minutes through Alexis Sanchez’s close range finish, but the forward was flagged offside.

De Gea then came to United’s rescue in the 70th minute as he produced a good save to deny Marcos Alonso from close range after some good work by N’Golo Kante.

Mourinho responded by introducing Lukaku and Anthony Martial for Rashford and Jesse Lingard moments later.

The Red Devils were camped in the Chelsea half for the remainder of the second half, but they were unable to get the breakthrough as Chelsea held on for the win.
