With many believing that Lionel Messi needs to win a World Cup with Argentina to be considered one of the game’s greats,
Brazil legend Roberto Carlos has now made a claim about the FC Barcelona man and the showpiece.
Messi is widely thought of as one of the best to ever play football.
But there are many who feel that, in order for him to be on that level, he needs to taste FIFA World Cup success, something he so nearly did in 2014.
The 30-year-old and his Argentina colleagues lost to Germany in the final four years ago, and they will try to challenge for the trophy once again in Russia.
Selecao icon Carlos, who won the tournament in 2002, believes the Barca talisman would have already lifted the trophy if he were Brazilian.
“If Messi were Brazilian, then he’d already have a World Cup,” he told TyC Sports.
Messi has been to three major finals with Argentina, losing all three.
