Riyad Mahrez joined Manchester City in a deal worth £60 million (R1 billion) on Tuesday, and became one of the club’s highest-paid players in the process. Here are the Citizens’ best earners following the African’s arrival.
Pep Guardiola’s side announced Mahrez as their first new arrival for the coming season earlier this week, and the Algerian will reportedly receive a weekly wage of £200 000 (R3.56 million), according to the Daily Mirror.
Only Kevin De Bruyne, with £280 000 (R5 million) a week, and Sergio Aguero as well as David Silva, who are both understood to pocket £220 000 (R3.92 million) weekly, earn more than the African.
“I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola,” Mahrez told City’s official website.
“Watching them from afar has been a pleasure. Pep is committed to playing attacking football, which is perfect for me, and City’s performances last season were outstanding. They’re redefining the English game and I wanted to be a part of it.
“I think we can be successful over the coming years and I believe my own game can develop under Pep’s management.”
Mahrez, who was named the CAF African Footballer of the Year in 2016 after lifting the Premier League title with Leicester City in the 2015/16 campaign, made 179 appearancs for the Foxes, scoring 48 goals and assisting another 38 strikes.
