Romelu Lukaku Hits Back At Jose Mourinho’s Critics, Shares Insight Into What It’s Like Playing For Him

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku recently had a message for manager Jose Mourinho’s critics, and also revealed what it is like to play for the Portuguese tactician.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach has cut a grumpy and dejected figure during pre-season, and some have even suggested that his time at Old Trafford could be coming to an end.

Mourinho has been critical of a number of his players and his club’s dealings in the transfer window so far, but Lukaku has now defended his manager, claiming he has a winning mentality.

“People need to understand that we play this game not to lose it. We play this game to win,” the Belgian told Business Insider.

“When you lose, you get angry. When he (Mourinho) is upset, he is the type of person that you can really see it.

“But that should be embraced because he is a manager and a coach that wants to win.

“If you cannot deal with that, don’t ask him questions because he should not hide his personality to give a good public image.”

The Belgium international also said that he enjoys playing for Mourinho, and insisted the coach is an entirely different person when behind the scenes.

“It is nice to play for him. I get to see a totally different image of him, where he is really cool,” Lukaku added.

“We make jokes. He sends me good advice, or funny videos, some stuff like that. So he is a family guy. That is how I know him.”
