One of Bayern Munich’s new signings, who is also a Germany international, says he has no regrets about turning down a big-money move to FC Barcelona.
Former Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, who signed a pre-contract agreement with the Bundesliga champions in January, was also being closely monitored by the LaLiga giants at the time, but opted against a move to Spain.
The 23-year-old, who had his first press conference as a Bayern player on Thursday, has stated that he was flattered by the Blaugrana’s interest but feels he made the right choice in the Bavarians.
“That was an honour, of course,” Goretzka said at his unveiling, according to the Daily Express.
“I had several options and took a lot of time for my decision and believe that I have made the best choice with Bayern.
“I see myself as a No. 8, but I am flexible. I am ready to play in different positions.
“I have a very positive impression of (Bayern head coach Niko) Kovac. Everything else will come over the next few days.”
Goretzka made 147 appearances for Schalke after joining the club in 2013, scoring 19 goals and assisting a further 17 strikes.
