FC Barcelona have been linked with a number of midfielders in this transfer, but coach Ernesto Valverde has opened up on why the Catalan giants went for Arturo Vidal.
The LaLiga champions recently confirmed they had reached agreement to sign the Chilean midfielder from Bayern Munich.
Barca had been linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot, Ajax Amsterdam youngster Frenkie De Jong, Valencia’s Dani Parejo and France World Cup winner Steven Nzonzi.
However, the club have opted for Vidal, who was previously a target for Inter Milan and Valverde feels the midfielder has a lot of experience and energy, which was lost after the departure of Paulinho,
“He’s a player who we hope will bring energy to the midfield,” Valverde was quoted as saying by FourFourTwo.
“He has a lot of experience and has played a lot of games on all the teams he has appeared with. He’s accustomed to playing in big matches.
“He has a lot of presence on the field and I think that will be very good for us
“Like Paulinho, he’s a player who’s a little bit different than the ones we have and we think he will be able to adapt well,” Valverde said.
“He’s a warrior. Our team has space for many different types of players.
“Last year there was a little bit of controversy when Paulinho came, and before he even played a single minute. Then people saw that he worked out really well.”
