Video shows all of the chances Lionel Messi created vs Sevilla during the Supercopa

One competitive match, one trophy.

Barcelona have got their campaign off to the perfect start.

While it’s all change for their El Clasico rivals Real Madrid, it’s very much business as usual for Blaugrana with another trophy to add to their collection.

They overcame Sevilla 2-1 in the Supercopa, which was played in Tangier, Morocco.

But that doesn’t quite tell the story of the whole match.

Sevilla took the lead through Pablo Sarabia after VAR ruled him to be onside, despite the assistant referee raising his flag.

VAR was called upon once again for Barcelona’s equaliser when Gerard Pique tapped into an empty net after Lionel Messi’s free-kick had struck the post.

And in the second-half, Messi rolled the ball to Ousmane Dembele who fired home a sensational strike.

But that wasn’t the end of the drama.

Sevilla were awarded an injury-time penalty but Wissam Ben Yedder’s effort was saved by Marc-Andre ter Steven.

Phew.

While Messi didn’t get himself on the scoresheet, he was involved in both of Barca’s goals.

But if it wasn’t for his teammates’ poor finishing, Messi could have had a few more assists.
