A Bundesliga outfit has ruled out the sale of their star striker, who has been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid in this transfer window.
Germany international Timo Werner is one of the forwards reportedly on Los Blancos’ transfer shortlist, along with Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski and Rodrigo Moreno of Valencia.
RB Leipzig coach and sporting director Ralf Rangnick has now insisted the club will not sell their prized asset.
“That’s just not an issue for us,” he told Sky Sports
“Timo has made it clear to us as well as in many interviews that he will definitely play for us in the coming year.
“Moreover, he has stated that he wants to play at least one season under Julian Nagelsmann (who joins from Hoffenheim next season).
“With only two years left on his current deal, Leipzig would, however, most likely not allow Werner to go into the 2019-20 season without committing his future to the club for longer than the summer of 2020.
“We will try to extend his contract ahead of time.”
The 22-year-old has made 77 appearances for the German club so far, scoring 42 goals and assisting a further 17 strikes.
