One of Cristiano Ronaldo’s former teammates has explained why Real Madrid, so far, have not missed the club’s all-time record goalscorer after he joined Juventus.
The 33-year-old left Los Blancos in a record deal, becoming Real’s most expensive sale in history. Despite his departure, the Spanish giants decided not to sign a high-profile replacement for the superstar, and have started the domestic season well.
Ronaldo’s former colleague Isco has now insisted his side have not missed the Portugal captain because other players have stepped up.
“Now, we play well as a team. There are players that, last year, didn’t score the goals they are now doing,” he said, as quoted by Sport.
“For now, we don’t miss (Ronaldo), but this is just starting. We hope to continue like this and I wish him the best at Juve.”
Isco also stated, though, that everyone at the club is well aware of the fact that outsiders will make their judgement on whether or not it was a good idea to sell Ronaldo based on how successful Real are this season.
“Obviously, Cris is an extraordinary player who assures you 50 goals a season, but we know how football is. If we win, they will say that we don’t miss him and if we lose, that we miss him,” he added.
Real have begun the new LaLiga campaign with three wins from three, with Gareth Bale having netted three goals and Karim Benzema four strikes already.
