An FC Barcelona loanee has scored more league goals than Cristiano Ronaldo this season despite playing just 81 minutes for Borussia Dortmund, equalling a 55-year-old Bundesliga record along the way.
Currently on loan at the German side, Paco Alcacer set the league alight with his hat-trick against Augsburg on Saturday. The 25-year-old came off the bench after 59 minutes, with his team trailing 1-0 at the time, and it took him just three minutes to net the equaliser.
However, Dortmund went behind again before Alcacer continued his scoring rout to make it 2-2. Everyone thought the home side had won the game when Mario Gotze completed the turnaround to make it 3-2 in the 84th minute, only for Augsburg to equalise with three minutes, plus injury time, left to play.
BVB’s new hero had the last laugh, however, scoring the much-celebrated winner in the sixth minute of injury time.
That was Alcacer’s sixth Bundesliga goal of the new campaign, which means he has scored more than Ronaldo has for Juventus in Serie A, and as many as his former teammate Lionel Messi has in LaLiga, despite effectively being on the pitch for only 81 minutes in the league so far.
Overall, Alcacer needed just three games for his goal exploits, becoming only the second Bundesliga player ever to score six times in his first three appearances in Germany’s top flight, according to Opta Sports.
