Luis Suarez will go down as one of Barcelona’s greatest ever players.
In just four years at the club, the Uruguayan striker is already their fifth top goal scorer and he scored a memorable hat-trick in El Clasico last Sunday in a 5-1 win.
He’s scored nine times in nine appearances against Real Madrid, but he’s spoken very truthfully in the aftermath about Barca’s need to start searching for his replacement.
“Of course Barcelona need a No.9, as I’m 31 years old,” he explained in an interview with Radio Sport 890. “Barcelona have to think as a club about their future, and players obviously have to keep coming in.
“We’re in Barcelona, every day there are many names that are going to be linked.”
Filling Suarez’s boots will be the most difficult of tasks and Barca have shortened their list to five names.
According to Marca, Genoa’s in-form Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek is one of their top targets after scoring nine goals in 10 Serie A games this season.
Another option is Paco Alcacer, who is currently on loan from Barca at Borussia Dortmund.
The Spaniard has scored seven goals in just four Bundesliga appearances, while also scoring three times in two games for the national side.
Despite struggling for form at Barca since his move from Valencia in 2016, he is beginning to look like a viable option.
The Blaugrana are also looking at Lille’s 23-year-old forward Nicolas Pepe, who can also play on the wing and would likely be the cheapest option on their shortlist.
Barca are also looking at two more ‘unrealistic’ options in RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.
Those two would likely command the highest fees, with Martinez also only recently moving to Serie A.
Werner is now a household name and has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past, likely increasing his price tag.
