Manchester United 75million summer arrival Romelu Lukaku says that Jose Mourinho’s plans to rebuild Manchester United made him join the Red Devils this summer.
The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a return to Chelsea this summer, with some reports even suggesting that he already had reached personal agreement with the west London club, only to shock everyone by joning Manchester United later.
United manager Mourinho worked with the the Belgium international before, during the time when both were part of Chelsea in 2014, with the Portugese allowing the striker to leave that year.
However, some claimed that Paul Pogba played a big part in his move to Old Trafford, but the player says that it was Mourinho who convinced him to move to United.
“We were just on holiday together,” said Lukaku referring to Pogba, with whom he spent time in Los Angeles before the transfer was completed.
“At the end of the day I had to make my own choices.
“It was the conversation I had with the manager that really convinced me the most, the plans and how he wanted to rebuild the club and he wanted me to be part of it.
“I am grateful for the chance.
“It feels great (to be a United player),” Lukaku said in Washington. “It is something I always wanted.
“I always wanted to play for a club of this stature. Now I am here I want to take my chance and try to deliver as much as I could for the club.
“I don’t want to talk about personal ambitions. I just want to work hard on a daily basis and win as many games as I can.”
He has scored two goals in his first three matches for the club during pre-season tour in the U.S. //Actuantes//
