Liverpool target Naby keita is unlikely to sign a new contract with RB Leipzig, confirmed the German club’s chief Ral Rangnick.
The Reds ended their interest in the Guinea international after two bids rejected.
Keita’s current contract expires in 2020, but Leipzig want to extend his deal, as his 48million pounds release clause can be activated next summer, according to Liverpool Echo.
“I am not currently assuming that we will be able to extend his contract prematurely,” Rangnick said.
“I can assure you that Naby is playing with us this season. All other scenarios also depend on how we do this season, how Naby plays himself and so on.”
Liverpool pulled out of the race for the midfielder after they’re second 66million pounds bid was rejected, with Leipzig not willing to sell at any price.
Now the player can stay for another 12 months at the club, as his 48million pounds release clause can be activated next summer.
But Rangnick again insisted that he’s not going anywhere this summer.
“It does not matter at all whether it’s €75million or €100million,” he told Bild.
“We have not developed for five years so that we can lose one of our best players in the first Champions League year.
“That would make no sense. We want to be successful.” //Actuantes//
