Former Barcelona midfielder Emmanuel Petit has named a surprising player as Andres Iniesta’s successor at Camp Nou.
Barcelona were desperate to sign a central-midfielder last summer, who would be a direct replacement for veteran Iniesta.
Paulinho was signed from Guangzhou Evergrande but the Catalans were still looking for a more forward midfield player.
Marco Verratti, Philippe Coutinho and Jean Seri were all linked with a move but all failed to materialise a transfer.
However, former Arsenal player, Petit thinks that Paris Saint Germain’s Adrien Rabiot is the natural replacement of Iniesta.
“He always takes the initiative, even before he moves,” Petit told Sport.
“He reminds me of Inietsa in many ways, although I know there will be people who will jump on me for saying that.
“He has a similar way of playing because, above all, they both play with a lot of simplicity.
“He still has to work on being more consistent and try to simplify his game a little more.
“He plays with too much confidence and his mistakes can affect him.” //Actuantes//
